    Derby City PCT has awarded an APMS contract to run a branch surgery to a local practice.

    It makes little difference whether private companies taking over GP practices are based in the USA or the UK. The culture will remain one of maximising profit. They are often successful at bidding for practices as they will meet the current demand for extended hours and can put together slick business proposals. However, the quality of services to patients and terms & conditions offered to staff are questionable. there are already many practices owned by private consortia and patients really don't know that we are already witnessing privatisation by the back door.
