Use digital dictation for referral letters

Microphones that record directly to your IT system can speed up referral letters, reports Dr Neil Paul.

Our GP's like the fact that they have to dictate in their rooms, so no temptation to put dictation off and do homework at weekends. At the end of each day nothing is outstanding.

Just thinking of investing in a digital Olympus recorder at £1000.00 so that some of the long gaps during out of hours work can be usefully filled by catching up on this kind of portable work. Unfortunately my office is not somewhere that induces me to spend more time in than necessary. Tapes have been unreliable and the quality poor. Hope this purchase improves on them. At least there is less likeliehood of the lost tape scenario.

It sounds great. What extra equipment is needed from the transcription side, if any?

We had Olypmus recorders and voice recognition software. The only thing we need was an upgrade on the secretary's computer. \(extra memory).
