MPs urge GPs to follow scrip guidance

GPs should follow government prescription guidelines, as the NHS spends £200 million more than it should on branded medicine, according to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

It is my belief that our best weapon to fight the PMs plans for extended hours for no extra money is to specifically prescribe BRANDED medicine. This report highlights how good we are at saving money on prescribing. Should Brown force his daft plans through we should protest by boycotting generic prescribing. No other profession would put up with the Governments behaviour which began with vilifying us for doing no more than fulfilling our contracts and will, unless we fight, see us working longer hours for lower income.

Rather a negative approach to say the least.

Do you think that we should work longer hours for less cash? If not what other approach would you suggest we take to show our anger? Boycotting Choose & Book has been suggested as has refusing to fill in DWP forms. I can hardly see the DOH & Brown quaking in their boots at that those. The Government will not listen to reason, they will not negotiate. Their approach is to threaten and discredit - hardly a positive attitude. If we as a profession continue to be wet we will get what we deserve.

I like your idea David and will be copying it to my GP's.
