Pharmacists offer to deliver vascular checks instead of GPs

Pharmacists are actively approaching PCTs over plans to deliver the DoH's vascular checks programme in a move that could cut out GPs.

RE: Pharmacists offer to deliver vascular checks instead of GPs

Has anyone asked those within this cohort what they want? Which package is going to improve client care more & with least fuss? Shouldn't PALS/PPI be intervening at this stage on behalf of who they represent? Am surprised there is no mention of them in this article. Surely they have a say in these matters......PN

Perhaps it should be realised that if only one profession in the team proposes to do all the work all of the time then quality is going to be affected. Having witnessed such checks conducted in a GP practice I realise that I could provide more time and a more efficient complete service than the GP I observed. He was busy running his regular clinic and had this added work. Pharmacists are ideally placed to provide this service if allowed to do so.
